Roman Garden
The Roman garden displays herbs the Romans grew during their occupation of Britain. These herbs are known from archaeological evidence and writings. It seemed appropriate to create a Roman garden here since we are next to the famous Chesters Fort and Hadrian's Wall runs just 20 metres north of the walled garden.
Continue on down to the bottom of the Garden and you can see Chesters House through the wrought iron gate. Scrambling over the wall is wild clematis.
Turn right along the lawn. On your left is the only shaded bed in the garden and if you turn right you reach the Long Border
and discover the Herb Bed, Roman Garden, Thyme Bank, Pool Garden, and Greenhouse. Knot Garden, and see the various themed borders such as Long Border, West Wall Border, and the Herbaceous Borders.
