Choice plants mix happily with common cottage varieties. Look out for the tall thistles of Cirsium rivulare 'Atropurpurea', the unusual pokeweed Phytolacca clavigera and some of the many varieties of hardy geraniums grown in the garden. Many of these plants have herbal and medicinal properties despite several being poisonous.
The parkland beyond the ha-ha and the iron age hill fort of Warden Hill can be glimpsed through the double gates in the bottom wall of the garden.
Running parallel to the Long Border is the Thyme Bank
and discover the Herb Bed, Roman Garden, Thyme Bank, Pool Garden, and Greenhouse. Knot Garden, and see the various themed borders such as Long Border, West Wall Border, and the Herbaceous Borders.
